The need is real. The need is right here in our community. Throughout our neighborhoods, there are people who lack some of the basic things we can all too easily take for granted. One of the roles of the church is to help fulfill needs. Our call is to make a difference in people's lives by utilizing what we have been given. Here at the Galena United Methodist Church, we have committed to engaging 2,011 lives in 2011. One of the new ways we can do this is through a project sponsored by the Serve Others Team, Item of the Month.
Many groups and churches collect things during the holiday season, but there is a great need for our help throughout the year. Each month we will collect specific items as seen in the schedule below. You can bring in items at any time during the month and then we will distribute them either directly to people or to a community agency committed to the same. This way, we can engage people, build partnerships and transform our our part of the world.
Check the list when you go out shopping and grab a couple of extra items of the month to bring to the church. There are two shopping carts located in the back of the sanctuary and our goal each month is to at least fill them. Thanks for making a difference and engaging our community with God's love!
